Numerical model for effluent upwelling



Detailed description :

REJECT software allows the simulation of effluents upwelling at the exit of an outfall or a diffuser.

This model takes into account:

  • The vertical variations of the seawater density (following the temperature and saltiness)
  • The angle of disposal: from 0 ° to 90 ° in relative to the horizontal plan

The model assumes that:
  • The panache has a symmetry of revolution around its axis (see graph hereunder).
  • The upwelling effluent velocity and concentration have a Gaussian distribution centered on the axis of the panache.

It provides the following parameters at each desired depth:

  • The dilution, which is, by definition, the total volume of water - volume of effluent ratio(inverse of the concentration)
  • The diameter of the panache
  • Position and angle of the panache axis
  • If needed, the depth of effluent captation
